Off Licence Magazine X Homegrown

لبيروت is a collaboration between Off Licence Magazine and Homegrown in support of the people of Lebanon.

Our collaboration will see a t-shirt design inspired by Fairuz’s anthem, expressing love, hope and prosperity to the Lebanese people who continue to suffer at the hands of the corrupt government. The collaboration supports This is Lebanon in an effort to inspire mutual aid projects to look deeper into communities at times of need. Migrant workers are rarely at the forefront of national revolutions and are too often neglected in national reform discourse. Our collaboration hopes to shine light on the continued needs of all the people of Lebanon, and also to open the eyes of those unfamiliar with the diverse array of Lebanon’s inhabitants.

This collaboration supports This Is Lebanon: a project founded and managed by a coalition of former migrant workers. It combats the oppressive Kafala System that over 250,000 women (mostly from African and South East Asian countries) work under; these domestic workers are excluded from protection under Lebanon’s Labour Laws. The economic crisis in Lebanon, impacted severely by coronavirus and the port explosion on August 4, left many employers unable or refusing to pay their wages. This Is Lebanon retrieving workers’ pay, transporting them to safe locations, and evacuating them back home safely.
